Establishment

The organization and establishment of the Laboratory of Sociology of Youth, Leisure Time and Sports in order to create the appropriate infrastructure for the development of social research across a wide range of subjects and specializations took place with the publication of Government Gazette 264/31 Oct. 2002. The laboratory was renamed the "Laboratory for Critical Criminological Study and Research," with the acronym "EKEME," by Government Gazette 3562/08 July 2022.

Objectives

  1. To fulfill the teaching and research needs of the Department of Sociology of the School of Social Sciences of the University of the Aegean, as well as other departments of the Institution, at the undergraduate and graduate levels, on topics that fall within the scope of the laboratory's activities.
  2. To support lifelong learning programs organized by the University of the Aegean or other organizations on topics related to the teaching and research subjects of the Laboratory.
  3. To organize self-funded educational programs for social scientists in its areas of research.
  4. To conduct research (design, collection, analysis) and documentation of quantitative and qualitative data in specific fields of study.
  5. To support doctoral and postdoctoral research in related scientific fields.
  6. To attract funded research from national and international sources in scientific fields of activity of the Laboratory or specific fields of expertise of its members.
  7. To promote teaching and research collaborations with research centers and academic institutions in Greece and abroad.
  8. To collaborate with broader public sector agencies, local government agencies, scientific, social, and professional agencies, international institutions or organizations, as well as productive entities in the private sector in related research and scientific fields.
  9. To organize scientific lectures, workshops, seminars, symposiums, conferences, and other scientific events.
  10. To provide services as provided for in Presidential Decree 159/1984 (A' 53).
  11. To provide and disseminate modern educational and research material such as the publication of articles, journals, books, and collective volumes in printed and/or electronic form.

Personnel

The "Laboratory of Critical Criminological Study and Research (EKEME)" is staffed by teaching and research personnel whose scientific activities are related to the teaching, research, and scientific interests of the relevant Laboratory, as well as other staff (e.g., members of the Special Teaching Staff (EEP), Laboratory Teaching Staff (E.D.I.P.), Special Technical Laboratory Staff (E.T.E.P.), Administrative Staff, as well as postdoctoral researchers, doctoral candidates and postgraduate students of the Department of Sociology and other Departments of the University of the Aegean, Greek and foreign universities, in accordance with the provisions in force.

Administration – Responsibilities

The Laboratory is directed by a faculty member of a corresponding subject, who belongs to the academic unit to which the Laboratory belongs. The term of office of the Director is three (3) years. It is possible to elect the same person as Director for more than one term. The status of Director is not incompatible with the status of a single-person body or member of a collective body of a university. Those who leave due to reaching the maximum age limit during the advertised position cannot be candidates and be elected. The Director is replaced, in case of absence or impediment, by faculty members of a corresponding subject, of the same Laboratory and in particular by the most senior faculty member. starting from the first level and exhausting the levels up to the level of assistant. The Director of the Laboratory exercises his/her responsibilities in accordance with the applicable provisions, such as, the coordination of the teaching (undergraduate - postgraduate) and research work of the Laboratory, the submission to the Department Assembly of the annual operating program of the Laboratory and the care for its observance, the care for the staffing, financial management and allocation of the Laboratory's premises, the recommendation to the Department Assembly for the designation of those responsible for consumables and mobile equipment, the submission to the Department Assembly of the annual report of activities, as well as the signing of any document related to the Laboratory of Critical Forensic Studies and Research (EKEME).

Installation – Logistics Infrastructure

In order to implement its work, the Laboratory is located on University premises that have been made available for the installation of the equipment necessary for conducting research and development projects and educational activities.

Operation (rules of operation of the Laboratory)

  1. The Laboratory operates during working days and hours, in accordance with the Internal Regulations of the University of the Aegean. A sign with the name of the Laboratory is placed at the premises.
  2. The Director is informed in advance of any work carried out in the Laboratory as part of a research program or other project that has been decided upon and determines the priority of use of equipment and premises.

Revenue – Resources

The Laboratory will be funded by its own revenues, which will come from:

  1. The implementation of research and development programs, the preparation of studies, and the provision of services to public, social, and private agencies.
  2. The distribution of research and scientific products in general.
  3. The provision of services in accordance with Presidential Decree 159/1984 (A' 53).
  4. Special contributions and all types of funding from international organizations and legal or natural persons.
  5. Bequests, donations, grants, and legacies left to the University of the Aegean for the purposes of the Laboratory.
  6. Conferences and educational seminars.
  7. Any other legal source.

Registry books

For the purposes of the Laboratory, the following data are kept in electronic form:

  • Asset register (fixed equipment).
  • List of scientific books and journals.
  • Research program file.
  • Any other book or item required by applicable law or considered necessary for the Laboratory.
